OTT at the bottle shop

So, I mentioned on Facebook earlier that we went a bit OTT at the bottle shop and we’ve now got 15 different beers in the fridge (all but three of which were brewed in NZ). If you’re interested, these are, from left to right:

  1. The Big Smoke – 8 Wired Brewery Co. – a smoked porter, I’ve had this before at a tasting, I’ll be interested to see what Juliet makes of this
  2. Deception (aka #4) – Hallertau – a locally brewed Schwarzbier, very nice
  3. Best Bitter – Three Boys Brewery
  4. Wheat – Three Boys Brewery
  5. Munchner Dunkel – Wigram Brewing Company
  6. Hefe Weizen – Wigram Brewing Company
  7. Enlightenment Scotch on Rye – Renaissance Brewing Company
  8. Scallywag – Schippers – I remember enjoying this at the Auckland beer festival
  9. Pale Ale – Epic
  10. Spike’s Red Rye Ale – Boundary Road Brewery – this has been my cheap-ish beer of choice over the last year, a nice semi mass-market hoppy pale ale
  11. Wheat As – Crafty Beggars (Lion) – not a fan of this, too sweet and bland (not too surprising since it’s from Lion)
  12. Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier – Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan
  13. Krombacher Weizen – Krombacher Brauerei Bernhard Schadeberg
  14. Krombacher Dark – Krombacher Brauerei Bernhard Schadeberg
  15. and last, and probably least, a bottle of our fourth batch of homebrew, Carter’s Pale Ale from Jan 2013

Normally I’d go for more NZ pale ales, since there’s so many good ones, but it being winter I was looking for some English-style bitters. I was a bit disappointed that LiquorLand in Newmarket didn’t seem have any UK beer in at all (last time I was in it had the usual suspects like Hobgoblin, London Pride, Greene King IPA), but I’ve picked up a few local brews that are English or Scottish style ales (the German wheat beers are Juliet’s choices).

Oh, and if you’re on Untapped, add me. Cheers!
